Moneyball is a 2011 sports drama film directed by Bennett Miller and written by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin.

The film follows Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane and his staff as they use unconventional statistical analysis to evaluate the teams players and field a competitive team despite Oaklands limited budget. Beane and his staff search to acquire players undervalued by the traditional methods of player evaluation, and the teams surprising success attracts the attention of the media.

The film stars Brad Pitt as Beane and Jonah Hill as Yale economics graduate Peter Brand, with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, and Chris Pratt in supporting roles. The film is based on Michael Lewiss 2003 non-fiction book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, which also focused on the As 2002 season.

The film was released on September 23, 2011, to critical acclaim. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Pitt, Best Supporting Actor for Hill, and Best Picture. Pitt won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama). At the 84th Academy Awards, it garnered six nominations, with two wins: Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor for Pitt.
