Velvet Buzzsaw is an American thriller film written, produced, and directed by Dan Gilroy. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Toni Collette, Zawe Ashton, John Malkovich, Daveed Diggs and Natalia Dyer.

The film follows art critic Morf Vandewalt, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, as he navigates the highly competitive contemporary art world, which is plagued by a mysterious force that puts its victims in the crosshairs of danger. After a series of mysterious deaths, Morf discovers that all of the victims were connected to an outsider artist whose reclusive work has been discovered by a powerful gallery owner. With the aid of his colleagues, Morf must race against time to uncover the mysterious force and protect himself and the art world from its deadly consequences.

Velvet Buzzsaw takes a close look at the desire of the modern art world to make a quick buck, often at the expense of artist’s integrity, and the lengths these galleries and their owners will go to achieve it. It also examines the lack of recognition granted to outsider art, and the potential danger that can arise when their works are thrust into the public spotlight. Throughout the film, Morf Vandewalt is forced to confront the moral and ethical dilemmas that come with the job, as well as the consequences of those decisions.
