Young Sheldon is a spin-off prequel to the long-running CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. It follows the early life of the title character, Sheldon Cooper, as he navigates his way through childhood in a small town in East Texas. The series is set in 1989, when young Sheldon (Iain Armitage) is a nine-year-old genius who has already skipped ahead four grades to begin college. Sheldon must adjust to a new school and make new friends, while also enduring the anxiety of living up to the expectations of his parents, Mary ( Zoe Perry) and George (Lance Barber). Along with the witty dialogue and comedic hi-jinks which viewers of The Big Bang Theory have come to expect, the show also explores Sheldons perspective on life, which is often at odds with those around him. Young Sheldon also features a colorful cast of characters including Sheldons brother, Georgie (Montana Jordan), and his two older twin sisters, Missy (Raegan Revord) and Meemaw (Annie Potts). Along with these characters, the series introduces new ones such as Coach Wilkins (Brian Stepanek), Pastor Jeff (Matt Hobby), and Dr. Linkletter (Wallace Shawn). With its humor and heartwarming message, Young Sheldon has been a hit with viewers. Although the show is a prequel to The Big Bang Theory, the series stands on its own as modern, clever sitcom which has already been renewed for a fourth season.
