Killer Joe follows the story of a Texas family in desperate need of money, and the lengths they go to to get it. Chris (Emile Hirsch) and his father Ansel (Thomas Haden Church) decide to hire Joe Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a contract killer, to take out Chris’ mother as part of a scheme to collect her insurance money. Complications arise when Chris’ young sister Dottie (Juno Temple) takes a liking to Joe and starts to get too close to him, while Ansel and Chris’ stepmother Sharla (Gina Gershon) face personal dilemmas of their own.

The film received positive reviews upon its release and was praised for its dark humor and McConaughey’s performance. Killer Joe is directed by William Friedkin and is based off the play of the same name by Tracy Letts. The movie was also nominated for Best Screenplay at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards.
